At Catbird Media we provide a specialised publishing service for financially independent authors. Our service includes manuscript editing, text and cover layout and design, printing and delivery. We also source and supply the ISBN, barcode, Cataloguing-in-Publication Data and submit copies of the finished book as per legal library deposit requirements.

We do not offer stand-alone typesetting or production, and we do not accept every manuscript submitted.

Production

We want to be sure the finished product is as good as it can be and all book files submitted will require editing. Even if it is just copy editing, every manuscript will require editing and proof reading by one of our editors. If you are unable to agree wholeheartedly to these terms, then we are not the publisher for you. We therefore do not accept so-called 'print-ready' files.

During the editing stage you will deal directly with one of our editors. We will produce a cover for your book and liaise with you during this process to discuss the design with you. Following editing, design and layout, your file will be proofed for final correction. You will then receive an electronic copy of the proof by email for a final check before the file goes to the printer. The final responsibility regarding accuracy of the text lies entirely with the author. Catbird Media will take no responsibility for any errors in the finished product. This means that you, as the author, will have to check and re-check the book before you approve it to go to the presses. This pre-press responsibility for accuracy is entirely yours.

Delivery

Once approved by you, the books are then printed and delivered in cartons to the nominated location. Catbird Media requests five copies of each title published which will be delivered direct from our printer, at the author’s expense. This is our standard practice.

Distribution and Marketing

Catbird Media is not contracted to promote, market or sell client’s books, other than by providing a an optional book review and listing on our website. We cannot guarantee any sales whatsoever. Catbird Media does not have a publicity or sales department for clients. We are simply not equipped to offer this service and cannot recommend publicists, distributors or sales service providers.
